Peridot - August Birthstone

Lush green Peridot, sometimes known as Olivine, was called the "gem of the sun" by the ancient Egyptians.

Peridot comes in bright lime green and olive greens, yellowish green to greenish yellow. This gemstone is formed deep inside the earth and brought up to the surface by volcanoes.

Peridot is the only gemstone that has a unique inclusion that is shaped like a lily pad that confirms its identity.   A very beautiful and wearable gemstone that is 6 1/2 - 7 on the Mohs scale for hardness.

Arizona's San Carlos Indian Reservation is the world's top producer of Peridot.  Peridot's other sources are Pakistan and Mynamar (Burma).

Never use ultra sonic or steam cleaners for your Peridot, warm soapy water is safe.
