These beads start out as a Moretti Murano glass cane that was hand wound on a open flame, into a molten glass ball. The molten glass ball is rolled across thin sheets of 24kt gold foil. This foil exterior is then completed by gently melting on top of the foil, transparent colors of Moretti Murano glass. As you can see it is a lot of work but the resulting bead is magical. The Venetian glass beads have a rich warm, glow with enhanced color. All these beds are HAND MADE, in the old world style, in Venice Italy. This hand made Necklace has a Lobster Claw clasp. Large Peridot Glass Square Fiorato Bead measures 19 MM "Fiorato" means "flower" in Italian. Smaller Peridot Glass Square beads measure 11MM Peridot Tube beads measure approx, 39 MM X 8 MM This piece flows with artistry from the Murano Isle near Venice. These are stunning, Venetian lamp work beads. These lovely beads are examples of the meticulous lampwork of Venice. This is a very collectible hand blown Venetian glass jewelry piece. Fiorato Beads: Hand made glass beads that are decorated with flowers. Fiore means flower in Italian, this word means small flowers. The bead is made by first making a small ball of the glass and then rolling the molten glass ball across thin sheets of 24kt gold foil, 24kt white gold foil or .925 sterling silver. The bead with this foil exterior is then completed by gently melting on top of the foil transparent colors of Moretti Murano glass. The 24kt gold foil under the colors gives it a rich glow, enhancing the color however on the outside there will be a small flower which is drawn using molten stringers of colored glass. Often there are also decorations on the exterior of aventurina piping. Venetian Fiorato beads require more skill and time for making. Venice is considered the birth place for lamp work beads. Italy became the glass capitol of the world during the time of the Renaissance. The glass workers were then located in Venice. The glass blowers highly guarded their secrets and recipes for their Venetian glass. In the 13th century, the bead makers moved their industry from Venice to the island of Murano. The glass blowers felt that the island of Murano would be a safer environment for their craft and their people. The people also thought that the move to the island and because it was surrounded by water, would extinguish the many fires that unfortunately their lamp working created. In Murano the bead makers produced the majority of the famous Venetian Beads. This is a brand new piece. I will come wrapped in tissue and a Silver Gift Box.
