Dogaressa: Handmade in Venice with a band of rich 24KT gold and intricate small flowers hand painted in molten glass and white decorations drizzled all over the top.
Furnace Glass: Since most beads are made from the Moretti (and now a new company just outside Venice called Vetro Fondo) the Furnace Glass Beads are different in that they are made by real glass blowers in real Murano Glass Furnaces. The glass is different from the softer Moretti glass, even though the composition is still soda. The glass used in this furnace is more like pyrex in that the glassblowers can blow these to very thin walls and that each bead is annealed in the oven overnight insuring that all stresses are relieved. This makes for a very strong bead. All the canes used in these beads are made on the premises of this furnace.
Givre: "Givre" beads are A clear or opaque bead that has what looks like a cloud of a different color, usually white in some part of the faceted bead. Givre means "Frosty" in French.
This strand of beads measures 19 inches long and is finished with a Barrel screw clasp.
This piece flows with artistry from the Murano Isle near Venice. These are stunning, Venetian lamp work beads. These lovely beads are examples of the meticulous lampwork of Venice.

Venice is considered the birth place for lamp work beads. Italy became the glass capitol of the world during the time of the Renaissance. The glass workers were then located in Venice. The glass blowers highly guarded their secrets and recipes for their Venetian glass. In the 13th century,the bead makers moved their industry from Venice to the island of Murano. The glass blowers felt that the island of Murano would be a safer environment for their craft and their people. The people also thought that the move to the island and because it was surrounded by water, would extinguish the many fires that unfortunately their lamp working created. In Murano the bead makers produced the majority of the famous Venetian Beads.
