Most mined crystals of Cuprite are far too small to even considered to facet a gemstone. The rough from this Cuprite which was discovered in Onganja, Namibia Africa was discovered in the 1970's. This mine produced large, gemmy Cuprite crystals that were facetable. This mine has long been depleted and most of these rare crystals were bought by major mineralogical museums. This just further increased the rarity of faceted Cuprite.

Faceted Cuprite over 2 carats is considered an almost impossible find! Faceted Cuprite of any size is a collector's dream gem. This spectacular museum quality gem has higher brilliance of a Diamond, with the color a rich, red Garnet. One of the most valuable of all gems, Cuprite soft nature prevents it from being a gem to be set in jewelry.
