George Frederick Kunz was a pioneer Gemologist ans longtime buyer for Tiffany and Company. He was a world recognized expert on and an avid promoter of Americam Gemstones. In 1902, he identified a new gem variety of the mineral, spodumene in San Diego, California. The new gem, Kunzite, was named in his honor.
